Day Three - Mile 408, Carmel

After sleeping in and taking in the view, we walked over to the hotel restaurant for a relatively health breakfast. No sense overdoing it.

After walking around Carmel for a while, we decided to check our the "Storybook Houses" that are in some neighborhoods.

Finally we stopped at the Carmel Mission to fulfill Barbara's need to see more of California History. We have been to most of California's Mission, but this one is a gem. It is still a fully functioning church and school, that is just beautiful. We just loved it and it was special since we had not been there since 1985. While we were there, lots of people were coming by for mass.
This is also the place where Junipero Serra is buried.

And now it is time to relax and enjoy the Jazz band that is playing in the beautiful lobby.
Tomorrow, off to the bay area!

Day Two - Mile 388, Hearst Castle, Carmel

Today was a short but slow drive along highway 1 along the California coast. it was beautiful day for it.

We stopped at Hearst Castle for about 4 hours.

Then we headed past Big Sur to our hotel overlooking the Pacific just South of Carmel.

27 years later!
After a nice Italian dinner in downtown Carmel we walked over to the Village Inn where we spent a few nights of our honeymoon 27 years ago this week.

A little coffee and back to our hotel.
Great day!

Day One - Mile 297, "The West" Road Trip

Since Barbara and I are on vacation I thought I'd change things up and post our adventures along with some pictures.

Our vacation plans are to cover 8 states and about 4500 miles over 20-21 days. We will be traveling north from Los Angeles to Seattle, with stops in San Simeon, San Francisco, visiting friends in Oregon. A few days in Seattle, then Wenatchee, then heading southeast through Idaho and Utah then southeast to Colorado. Finally to New Mexico, then west again through Flagstaff on our way back to Los Angeles all the while zigging and zagging along the way.

Not sure how much posting I will actually do, but we'll see.

Day one - Mile Marker 297.

Today was a slow start by design, made it to San Simeon. Just had a nice dinner at a place called "Robins"  Very good. Loved their Salmon Chowder with garlic bread and their Maine lobster enchiladas.

Time to relax, then off to Big Sur tomorrow, but not before a stop at Hearst Castle.
